Law
and Order
Youth Pastors Joshua & Loraine Kennedy
Vision: To see an Army of young people - the
nameless, faceless, generation - arise in this territory, and walk
in the power and authority that is available to all those who put
all their trust in Jesus Christ.
Mission: To create an open atmosphere each week
where one can experience God personally, to hear what He is saying,
and see what He is doing, and, therefore, discover how He wants
us to respond.
What’s
The Word?
From Here To
There
Exo 20:1-20 GOD spoke all these words: "I am GOD,
your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of a life
of slavery. No other gods, only me. No carved gods of any size,
shape, or form of anything whatever, whether of things that fly
or walk or swim. Don't bow down to them and don't serve them because
I am GOD, your God, and I'm a most jealous God, punishing the children
for any sins their parents pass on to them to the third, and yes,
even to the fourth generation of those who hate me. But I'm unswervingly
loyal to the thousands who love me and keep my commandments. No
using the name of GOD, your God, in curses or silly banter; GOD
won't put up with the irreverent use of his name. Observe the Sabbath
day, to keep it holy. Work six days and do everything you need to
do. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to GOD, your God. Don't do
any work--not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant,
nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting
in your town. For in six days GOD made heaven, earth, and sea, and
everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, GOD
blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day. Honor your
father and mother so that you'll live a long time in the land that
GOD, your God, is giving you. No murder. No adultery. No stealing.
No lies about your neighbor. No lusting after your neighbor's house--or
wife or servant or maid or ox or donkey. Don't set your heart on
anything that is your neighbor's."
All the people, experiencing the thunder and lightning,
the trumpet blast and the smoking mountain, were afraid--they pulled
back and stood at a distance. They said to Moses, "You speak
to us and we'll listen, but don't have God speak to us or we'll
die." Moses spoke to the people: "Don't be afraid. God
has come to test you and instill a deep and reverent awe within
you so that you won't sin."
Without the law there would be no order. The law is what brings
order. It establishes a standard of living. God created man and
the earth we live in. He established order from the beginning, and
there cannot be any order in our lives apart from Him.
Gen 1:1-3 "In the beginning God created heaven
and earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered
the deep water. The Spirit of God was hovering over the water. Then
God said, 'Let there be light!' So there was light."
Apart from God our lives are void, empty, full of darkness. Only
when we acknowledge the words God has spoken, the order that He
has established, the laws He has made, can the void be discovered,
the emptiness be filled, the darkness become light. To be fulfilled,
we must follow the Word of God.
Psalm 119:104-107 "With your instruction, I understand
life; that's why I hate false propaganda. By your words I can see
where I'm going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path. I've
committed myself and I'll never turn back from living by your righteous
order. Everything's falling apart on me, GOD; put me together again
with your Word."
It is the Word of God that puts us together, helps us understand
life, that establishes righteous order that if not followed we fall
completely apart. The law was not created to control us or keep
us from something, but to guide us to life, the God kind of life
that is found in Christ the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (Jn 10:10)
Parents establish guidelines with which you may not agree, but
they are to protect the ones they love. The Ten Commandments were
given out of love. We saw in the last teaching that the children
of Israel had a lot of problems that they took to Moses. Jethro
corrected Moses and told him to appoint leaders to assisst him in
governing the people. The majority of our problems, our hurts and
bitterness are rooted in broken relationships.
God is love and everything He establishes is out of love. The
Ten Commandments were given as a guideline on how to love. The first
five are on how to love God, the last five on how to love one another.
The Bible says they will know that we are His by our love (Jn 13:35).
Children are a mere reflection of their parents. In Exodus Chapter
19 God told Moses to tell the people that He chose them and carried
them out of Israel and were taking them to a land they could call
their own. They were special and God would use them to reveal Himself
to the nations of the world. If we are God’s children, it
is seen in our love for one another.
1 John 4:7 "My beloved friends, let us continue
to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves
is born of God and experiences a relationship with God."
A life lived out in love is a life free from broken relationships.
Ttherefore, a life free from hurts, disappointments, bitterness,
jealousies, anger, etc. It is a life lived in peace and perfect
harmony and order. The God kind of life that He intended His creation
to experience.
1Cor 13:4-7 "Love never gives up. Love cares more
for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut, doesn't have a swelled head, doesn't force itself
on others, isn't always "me first," doesn't fly off the
handle, doesn't keep score of the sins of others, doesn't revel
when others grovel. Love takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best,
never looks back, but keeps going to the end."
It may seem impossible to forgive someone, or move past certain
hurts. The Ten Commandments are a guideline, they are just a mere
letter, they do not hold the power to live out. God gave them to
lead us to the greatest example of His love and that is Him giving
us Jesus Christ, His only Begotten Son. But by simply repenting
of our sins and believing that Jesus died and rose again, we are
saved and are partakers of His life. He is now are source of strength
to live our life in love. It is when we live our life based on loving
God and loving one another that we fulfill the law and experience
perfect order. John 15:17 "But remember the root command: Love
One Another."
